L’watch is a highly appreciated accessory by many, and for this reason it is often chosen as a gift for friends and family. For this reason, it may happen that this object has to be sent, and in this case certain precautions must be taken to ensure that the watch arrives at its destination in optimal condition, and thus prevent the shocks to which it may be subjected from damaging it.
In this article, we are going to look at how to ship a watch safely, indicating all the necessary measures to package it correctly and safely.
How to pack a watch
As we have said, a fundamental part of dispatch a parcel è pack it properly, to ensure that it is not damaged during transport. In fact, this type of accessory has a number of very delicate mechanical components, which must be effectively protected from shocks and moisture. So let's look at the steps to be followed to pack a watch correctly.
First of all, it will be necessary to obtain the original box of the object, or a cardboard box of similar size, and another outer box. After that, you will proceed to close the excess mesh and spare accessories in a plastic bag, and any repair kit in another one, if any.
If you have the watch in its original box, before inserting it you must wrap it with a sheet of polyethylene foam, and then insert it into its housing, and do the same with the accessory bags. These items should then be covered with bubble wrap, and then close the box.
If, however, you do not have the original watch box, you will have to wrap it with two or three layers of polyethylene foam, and again in two layers of bubble wrap, and then secure everything with adhesive tape. Again, any spare accessories and repair kits should be placed in plastic bags, and both these sachets and the watch should be wrapped in bubble wrap. After that, the replacement box must be half-filled with polystyrene chips, insert the clock with the envelopes, fill the rest of the polystyrene box and close it with packing tape.
At this point, the box must be placed in a larger package, wrapping the first one in two or three layers of wrapping paper sealed with packing tape, then fill the larger box halfway with polystyrene chips, insert the smaller box, completely fill the box with polystyrene chips and close it, sealing it with packing tape.
Using an external box is a very important step, because it is a’additional protection of the watch from shocks, which are very common during transport, and on it will be applied the shipping labels required by the express courier to whom you entrust the shipment, and to be even safer you can also apply a’specific label for shipping fragile goods.
How to send a watch safely
Once the watch is properly packed, the only thing left is to choose the courier brt to whom to entrust it and wait for it to be delivered to the recipient. In this regard, it is possible to choose a courier specialising in a particular sector, in this case, the watch and jewellery industry, therefore using specialised vehicles and personnel capable of handling this type of object. By choosing a sectoral shipment, therefore, you can be sure that your parcel will travel in optimal conditions, and will therefore be further protected from theft or accidents.
We would like to remind you that with regard to the sectoral transport of watches and jewellery, this type of shipment is compulsory in case the commercial value of the product to be shipped is more than €500.
Clearly, sectoral shipping has some different costs compared to a parcel shipment ordinary, and depending on our budget we must also take this factor into account when choosing the courier to whom we entrust our parcel.
However, since it is a delicate and often expensive object, shipping a watch creates quite a few worries, especially due to the fear that the object will arrive at its destination with mechanical or cosmetic damage, for which one must then assert one's insurance rights if it is established that the damage was caused by the transport of the watch.
So before shipping a watch, we have to take several factors into account, and analyse the key features we would like our shipment to have, such as product insurance, tracking service, cost, delivery time, and so on. For both domestic and international shipments there are numerous couriers offering both ordinary and sectoral shipments, thus offering a wide range of options to those who have to choose the company to whom they will entrust the shipment of a watch.
So, from what we have seen in this article, we can conclude by saying that it is possible to ship watches in total safety, but to do so it is necessary that they are packaged correctly, to avoid both aesthetic and mechanical damage, and it is also advisable to rely on a courier specialised in shipping this type of object, who therefore has the necessary skills and tools to transport watches in the safest way possible.
