Shipping TipsComfortable: India is the world’s most populous country and the fifth-largest, rapidly growing economy. Indian customs (CBIC) applies the GST (Goods and Services Tax) at a rate of 18% plus variable duties depending on the product category. With accurate documentation and correct declared values, shipments to Mumbai, Delhi and major urban hubs proceed smoothly.
📦 How much does it cost to ship at India?
The cost depends on:
actual weight and volumetric weight - The volumetric weight is calculated based on the actual size of the parcel; if it exceeds the actual weight, it determines the final price. Always enter the real length, width and height in the calculator
dimensions
destination city — Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai have excellent coverage; smaller towns and rural areas may require additional time for final delivery
chosen service
duties and Indian GST — India levies GST (Goods and Services Tax) at a rate of 18% on imports, in addition to customs duties that vary by product category

⏱️ Shipping time to dispatch at India
Shipments from Italy to India are by air (~6,500 km) and include CBIC customs clearance.
DHL / UPS / FedEx Express: 3–5 DAYS working
Economy: 6–10 days working
📍 Indicative examples:
Milan → Mumbai: 3–4 days (express)
Rome → Delhi: (New Delhi): 4–5 days (express)
Milan → Bangalore: 4–5 days (express)
Milan → Chennai: 4–6 days (express)
⚠️ Always allow an extra 2–4 days for CBIC customs checks. During Diwali (October/November) and Holi (March), delivery times are significantly longer. For rural areas, remote islands (Andaman and Lakshadweep) and mountainous areas in the north-east, always allow an extra 5–10 days for final delivery.
📄 Documents and customs for shipping at India
India is outside the EU: all consignments pass through the CBIC (Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs). Required documents:
commercial invoice or proforma in English
detailed description of the goods (NO “gift”)
free export declaration
EORI for corporate shipments
sender's identity document (required by some couriers)
GST and customs duties
India applies the GST (Goods and Services Tax) at varying rates: 5%, 12%, 18% or 28%, depending on the product category. The standard rate for most imports is 18%. In addition to GST, variable basic customs duties (BCD — Basic Customs Duty) apply. The de minimis threshold for imports is INR 5,000 (approximately €55) — all taxes apply above this threshold.
💡 Shipping TipsComfortable: Always state the product type, quantity, actual value and country of origin — “made in Italy” is an important indication for luxury goods and food products. The CBIC verifies the declared values: an inconsistent value is the main cause of additional inspections.
🚫 Avoid generic descriptions:
“gift”
“clothes”
“personal items”
✅ Use detailed descriptions:
“Men's cotton T-shirt - 3 pieces - value €45 - made in Italy”.”
“Leather shoes - 1 pair - value €120 - made in Italy”.”
Material that is obscene or contrary to public order
Counterfeit products or those that infringe intellectual property rights
Beef and beef products (for religious reasons — the cow is sacred in Hinduism)
Plants, seeds and fresh agricultural produce without NPPO phytosanitary certification
Prescription-only medicines without medical documentation and CDSCO authorisation
E-cigarettes and e-liquids — banned in India
🍷 Wine and spirits: the import of spirits into India is subject to extremely high duties (often 150%+) and to state-specific licences. Each Indian state has its own regulations: some states (Gujarat, Bihar) are completely prohibitionist. Do not dispatch spirits without checking the regulations first.
🍝 Packaged food: pasta, biscuits, oil and tinned food are generally permitted for personal use, subject to a customs declaration. Beef products are prohibited.

⚠️ Diwali — the Festival of Lights — is India’s most important festival and the biggest commercial event of the year. For urgent shipments with a deadline close to Diwali, plan at least three weeks in advance.
It also takes into account Italian public holidays (25 April, 1 May, 8 December), which may impact the withdrawal in Italy.

🏷️ Correct address in India
The Indian PIN code (Postal Index Number) consists of 6 digits. The first digit indicates the geographical region (1=Delhi/Haryana, 4=Maharashtra/Gujarat, 5=Karnataka/Andhra Pradesh, 6=Kerala/Tamil Nadu, 7=West Bengal/North-East India).
Format for international shipping:
First name Surname [House number / Flat number],
[Street name / Cologne] [Neighbourhood / Area] [City],
[Country] – [6-digit PIN]
EGYPT
Tel: +91 [number without the leading 0]
📍 Example:
Rahul Sharma, aged 15,
Linking Road,
Bandra West, Mumbai,
Maharashtra – 400050
INDIA
Tel: +91 98765 43210
📍 Real-life example (Delhi):
Priya Singh, 42,
Connaught Place,
Block D, New Delhi,
Delhi – 110001
INDIA
Tel: +91 11 1234 5678
💡 Advice:
PIN code: 6 digits (e.g. 400050 for Bandra, Mumbai; 110001 for Connaught Place, Delhi; 560001 for central Bangalore; 600001 for central Chennai)
Status: Always include the name of the state — this is essential for sorting in a country with 28 states
Telephone: country code +91. Indian mobile numbers have 10 digits (e.g. 98765 43210 → +91 98765 43210)
“Colonia” and “Nagar”: In India, the term “Colony” or “Nagar” refers to a residential neighbourhood — an integral part of the address
Flats: Use the format “Flat No., [Building name], [Street]” for flats in residential complexes
💡 Shipping TipsComfortable: In India, an address without the name of the state can lead to serious sorting errors — the states are huge and have similar names (e.g. Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand). Always include the abbreviation or full name of the state 🚀
