The UAE is non-EU but has one of the most efficient customs procedures in the Gulf. Required documents:
- commercial invoice or proforma in English
- detailed description of the goods
- free export declaration
- EORI for corporate shipments
Duties and Emirates VAT
The UAE do not apply customs duties on most imports - they are a de facto free port. As of 2018, the VAT of 5%, one of the lowest in the world, charged on imports above the de minimis threshold (usually AED 300, about €75). For lower values, often no additional charge.

Prohibited or restricted products
🚫 Narcotics (zero tolerance, very severe penalties), weapons, pornographic material, products offensive to Islam, counterfeit articles. Caution: some medicines common in Europe are considered controlled substances in the UAE - always check before shipping medicines.
🍷 Spirits: The UAE allows the import of alcohol but only through specifically licensed operators. Do not ship alcohol between private individuals.
🍝 Always describe the goods accurately: “Women's leather shoes - 1 pair - 150€ - made in Italy” instead of “shoes” or “gift”.
